Pete Zimmerman opened EZ Sports, a sports gear and equipment store, on South Greeley Avenue in Chappaqua in September 1992. The store offered imprinted sportswear and uniforms, and accepted customer orders, for 23 years. The store operation concluded at the end of 2015, and EZ Sports relaunched as an online retailer and wholesaler in 2017.
Pete had on the job training to reach his goal of serving Chappaqua and surrounding communities. In what might be longest run as volunteer coach, he volunteered as a coach for Chappaqua youth football, softball, lacrosse and baseball teams, starting with Stags Little League baseball in 1970 and Pittsburgh youth football in 1971.
Pete was a Chappaqua resident staring in 1959. Pete and his brothers Michael and Chris all played team sports at Robert E Bell School and Horace Greeley High School. Michael, now living in Brookline, Mass., participated in varsity football and wrestling at Greeley. Chris played lacrosse, baseball and football, before starring at University of Vermont in ice hockey.
