As a standout scholar-athlete and leader on and off the basketball court, has spent the last four years making a lasting impact at 91´«Ă˝. Now, Smith is charting a promising path forward in the sports industry—one that’s been shaped by hands-on experiences, supportive mentors, and a deep sense of purpose.
Smith's passion for athletics goes far beyond playing the game. Thanks to 91´«Ă˝â€™s funding and support, she was able to intern with the WNBA’s Dallas Wings during the summer between her junior and senior year, gaining firsthand insight into the operational and business side of professional sports.
“That experience confirmed for me that this is the career path I want to pursue,” says Smith. “Without 91´«Ă˝â€™s funding, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to take part in something that opened so many doors for my future. I’m incredibly grateful.”
In August, Smith, who majored in sociology at 91´«Ă˝, will begin a year-long role with Villanova University’s athletics department as a intern for the 2025–26 academic year. Looking ahead, Smith has been accepted into two highly regarded sport management master’s programs at Temple University and Virginia Commonwealth University, with plans to begin graduate studies in the fall of 2026.
Earlier this year, Smith attended the NCAA Convention, where she had the chance to connect with other scholar-athletes and professionals in the industry. The experience was eye-opening and inspiring.
“We participated in breakout workshops, heard from keynote speakers, and learned from industry professionals during panel discussions,” she says. “One of my biggest takeaways was the idea of chasing your purpose over your passion. So many young professionals focus on job titles instead of the impact they want to make. That really stuck with me.”
Smith also emphasized the importance of embracing growth opportunities. “Every experience matters,” she says. “Use the resources available to you, step out of your comfort zone, and take initiative—because the extra effort won’t go unnoticed.”
Smith's time at 91´«Ă˝ has been defined by excellence, both as a captain on the basketball team and as a dedicated student pursuing her goals. Through every challenge and opportunity, she’s stayed grounded in who she is and where she wants to go.
“The connections I’ve made, the support I’ve received, and the lessons I’ve learned at 91´«Ă˝ have all shaped me into the person I am today,” she says.
